Sr. Mary Prudence Allen, R.S.M., joins us in February to speak on the topic of “Integral Complementarity: A Philosophy of the Human Person & Human Relationships.”
Sr. Mary Prudence Allen, R.S.M., a Religious Sister of Mercy of Alma, Michigan, received her PhD in Philosophy at Claremont Graduate University in California. She taught philosophy at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and was named Distinguished Professor Emeritus in 1996. She then became Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Philosophy, St. John Vianney Theological Seminary, Denver, Colorado and later named to the Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. cap. Chair of Philosophy in 2011- 2014. Her areas of expertise are the Philosophy of Person, Metaphysics, Existentialism, and Personalism in the History of Philosophy.
Dr. Allen has published a three volume work by Eerdmans on The Concept of Woman: Volume I: The Aristotelian Revolution (750 BC-1250AD); Volume 2: The Humanist Reformation ( 1250-1500); and Volume III: The Search for Communion of Persons (1500-2015) She has lectured and published widely in Canada, Europe, and the United States. She was recently appointed by Pope Francis to the International Theological Commission for the term 2015-2019. As a Religious Sister, she is now assigned to St. Albert the Great Convent of Mercy in DeWitt, Michigan where she is part of the Diocese of Lansing. She is teaching the novices and postulants philosophy. She is also giving lectures at various universities, religious and philosophical institutions and participating in a Lansing Diocese study of various aspects of the intellectual life.
